Children: Let Them Amaze You
Big Sister Matchmaker
“See that guy in the kitchen?”
I glance to the back of the cafe where I see a man hunched over a chopping block furiously dicing vegetables.
“You mean that portly guy with the heavy mustache and dark beard?”
“Yeah. That’s the guy that I’m going to fix up with Zara.”
I shake my head in disbelief, “He’s definitely not her type. You know she goes for the tall lanky ones.”
“We’ll see,” replied Allison, “He’s got everything she needs. C’mon, I’ll introduce you.”
I loved Andre from the start. I could see what Allison was talking about: personable, hard-working, easy-to-laugh, and a great conversationalist. And to top it off, one thing that really appealed to me as the mom, was that fact that Andre co-owned the cafe with his mom!
It didn’t take Allison too long after our conversation that day to get things going even though Zara lived 3,000 miles away in California. First tactic was to get the two of them talking. Allison used Zara’s love of cooking to link the two without any effort. As it happened, Zara had asked Allison for a pumpkin soup recipe. Rather than make it easy and give the recipe that Allison had on hand, she suggested that Zara contact Andre. Thus began an ongoing dialogue that went on for several months, until the day came that Andre announced that he was making a trip to California to visit his brother. Of course, Andre asked Zara if they could meet...
Now, four years later, I can say that Allison was most definitely right. What a privilege it was for me to watch a big sister take action to give her little sister a chance at love.
